Cynren is Old English for "kindred," and here at the Press, we take our name to heart. Cynren Press is a traditional publisher of history, culture, memoir with a historical relevance, and biography. We approach history as the human story, offering a guide to the past, insight into the present, and lessons for the future.
Cynren is currently accepting unsolicited manuscripts and book proposals from experienced and new authors alike.
We're looking for books with a unique or insightful perspective on the human story.
Cennan Books, Cynren's fiction imprint, publishes historical fiction and world fiction.
We have a particular interest in historical fiction that illuminates a new or unique perspective on well-known historical events.
We also have a specific interest in medieval historical fiction, just because we love it!
We're interested in offering readers insights into cultures and lifeways through engaging fictional accounts.
If you have an agent, great! If not, no worries: we happily accept unagented submissions.
Please submit your query letter to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line “QUERY.” If we have an interest, we'll respond within 7 days to ask for a proposal (see below). If you do not hear from us in that time, please assume that we've decided, with gratitude for your consideration of our press, not to pursue your manuscript further.
If you have a proposal ready, there is no need to send a query first. Please submit your proposal to email@example.com with the subject line “LastName/Title: PROPOSAL.” Please allow 4 weeks for review of your proposal. We respond to all complete proposals.
Please include the following materials as your proposal package. (Note: incomplete proposals will not be considered)
A short bio, along with your mailing (snail mail) address, telephone number, email address, website, and any social media sites or blogs you maintain
Your book’s genre (fiction, memoir, biography, history, etc.)
The manuscript’s word count, character count (with spaces), and status (completed? if not, when?)
A list of competitive titles (books to which your manuscript is similar) and how your book sets itself apart
Your platform: How are you qualified to write the book? What contacts do you have that will aid with promotion and sales? What plans/ideas do you have for promotion, to complement our own efforts?
An annotated table of contents
A count and brief description of any art (photos, figures, tables)
Your introduction, your conclusion, and two additional chapters
Please note that our current time to respond to submissions is 4 to 6 months.
If you are contacted to submit your full manuscript for editorial review, please email your submission to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please include the following with your submission:
Your book manuscript in full (or as much as you have completed), as a Word document.
The first page should include a short bio, along with your mailing (snail mail) address, telephone number, and email address.
Any art you intend to include or suggest for the book (photos, drawings, maps, tables, etc.) pasted into a separate Word document or PDF. If digital copies are not available, please include a description of these items instead.
