Who We are
At Cynren, we publish books that endure.
We focus on work that’s intellectually curious, historically resonant, and deeply human.
I’m Holly, founder of Cynren Press. As Publisher of a boutique indie press, I oversee every part of the publishing process for every title, from acquisitions and editing to design, production, marketing, and distribution.
I started Cynren Press because I love humans and our brilliant, bewildering history. I also love books—reading them, writing them, holding them, smelling them. I hear the word manuscript, and my head snaps.
After a BA in the Writing Seminars from the Johns Hopkins University, an MA in linguistics from Rice University, and a second MA, in communication, from Johns Hopkins, how apropos that I went into publishing.
I worked for many years as an editor and, eventually, a page designer for a scientific society and several university presses before beginning my own press. We launched in 2017 and published our first titles in 2019. With the help of some wildly talented collaborators, and our new partnership with IPG, Cynren is growing in all the right ways:
