What kinds of books does Cynren Press publish?
We focus on nonfiction in the areas of memoir, history, biography, and women’s studies. Our fiction imprint, Cennan, publishes historical and world fiction.
Do you accept unagented submissions?
Yes, we do. You don’t need an agent to submit to Cynren Press or Cennan.
Do you accept concurrent submissions?
Yes. But please drop us a line at submissions@cynren.com to withdraw your submission if you accept another offer. Thank you.
Does my book have to be complete?
No. If we like a proposal package, we will contract for an incomplete manuscript.
How do I submit my book?
Send a query to submissions@cynren.com with “QUERY” in the subject line. Include a brief summary of your book and a short bio.
Should I query Cynren or Cennan?
Just one submissions process includes both imprints.
What happens after I submit a query?
We review each query carefully. If we’re interested, we’ll request a full manuscript.
What happens after I submit a full manuscript?
Give us a couple months. Our two-person acquisitions team will read the book; consider your author platform, market potential, and publication readiness; and determine whether to offer publication. At that time, you'll receive either notification that we've decided, with gratitude, to pass or an email from the Publisher with happy news.
What does it mean if I don't hear back about my query?
We’ve chosen to pass, with gratitude for your submission.
What kind of publishing model do you use?
We are a traditional press with editorial integrity and a selective hybrid option. Most of our titles follow the traditional model.
Because you offer a selective hybrid publication pathway, does that make you a vanity press?
Pfft.
Do you offer advances?
Sometimes, depending on the title. Enough to pocket for a bottle of bubbly and a nice dinner on pub day.
How will my book be distributed?
We partner with Independent Publishers Group (IPG), an industry-leading full-service distributor, to sell and distribute books to bookstores, libraries, the specialty market, and online retailers worldwide.
Do you market the books?
We provide foundational marketing, including metadata optimization, ARC outreach, paid advertising, full-service marketing to the trade, and select publicity support.
